Growing Vegetables
You’ve probably realized that growing vegetables is my greatest passion. I hope it will become one of yours. When I was a young gnome, I remarked that we do well the things that we really enjoy doing. An elder gnome, nearly 300 years old, corrected me and said that the reverse is actually true. We really enjoy the things we do very well. Of course I thought, if you’re good at something you are bound to enjoy it. If you can learn to grow vegetables really well – get really good results – then it will become your passion, too.
Specific vegetables have different needs in the garden. They require different
plant nutrients
, grow better at a certain
soil pH
, and even grow best during certain seasons and at certain temperatures. Some are frost hardy and some are not. Growing vegetables well means understanding the needs of each variety and meeting those specific needs. Below is an alphabetical list of popular vegetables, fruits and berries that you can add to your home garden. Each link will lead you to a page that details that plant's needs.
