A Brief Garden Gnome History
Garden gnome history goes back to the beginning of time. People of most religions know that man was created in God’s image. But, the bible also tells us that there were giants in the earth in those days (Gen. 6:4). Well, there were also gnomes. Men were given dominion over the surface of the earth. Gnomes were given dominion over the inner earth, and responsibility to supervise and survey the earth’s great mineral wealth. Gnome history records that every gnome family was assigned the safe keeping of a vein of gold or silver, a lode of copper or a cavern of diamonds, emeralds or rubies, and so on. Each colony of gnomes lived together beneath the earth and near the location of their mineral stewardship. To facilitate our work, we developed the ability to walk through solid earth, even as man walks upon the earth. For millennia we were the undisturbed custodians of the riches of terra firma.
Events Give Rise To A New Garden Gnome History
Then came the miners, ripping the treasure of earth from its bosom with violent disregard for peace and conservation. Greedy human miners unknowingly destroyed entire gnome colonies. The roar of explosives made life in the earth’s depths agonizing and intolerable for us. Migration to shallower depths and more populated areas became essential to our survival. We still lived below and stayed out of sight, but we were displaced and out of work. It was at this time that the history of the garden gnome was born. Our history as garden gnomes demonstrates that we are an industrious race. We believe work is good for the soul. We became gardeners – working the earth and growing our own food. Some colonies risked the invasion of miners by living in remote areas, though deliberately avoiding locales with rich mineral deposits. But most chose more urban locations, where men allowed no mining. We are not a violent race, living our lives in complete harmony with the earth and peace toward all beings. As a passive protection, we developed the skill of standing absolutely still if a human comes into view. It allows us to appear as nothing more than harmless little garden gnome statues. The history of gnomes was altered forever, as most of us became the World’s best gardeners.
